Despite not even being released yet, the film has already taken social media by storm with memes galore.
Calling the premiere highly anticipated would be an understatement. Movie fans are stoked! So why is everyone so hyped about "Oppenheimer"? Here are five reasons the world is excited to see it, and you should be, too.

1. Christopher Nolan co-wrote and directed 'Oppenheimer'
A major reason to see this movie is because of the director and co-writer: Christopher freaking Nolan.

This man is a superstar.
He has likely written and/or directed some of your favorite movies, including "The Dark Knight," "Inception," "Interstellar" and many, many more. The dude is a walking box office hit, which means this film will surely be another banger.
2. 'Oppenheimer' was fully shot in IMAX and Panavision
IMAX is a brand of high-resolution cameras and film formats made specifically for large screens. According to The Associated Press, the entirety of "Oppenheimer" was shot on large format 65mm film stock that will then be projected to 70mm, which could make for a helluva viewing experience.
“The sharpness and the clarity and the depth of the image is unparalleled,” Nolan said, per AP. “The headline, for me, is by shooting on (IMAX film), you’re really letting the screen disappear. You’re getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses. You’ve got a huge screen and you’re filling the peripheral vision of the audience. You’re immersing them in the world of the film.”
3. Every star imaginable is in this movie
The cast list for "Oppenheimer" is what us normal folk would expect to see on an Illuminati member list. (No, we are not saying these actors are in the Illuminati). It seems every star in the world is in this film.
The big names? Oh, just Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett and Tony Goldwyn.
That alone should be enough of a reason for you to drive to the theaters the day it comes out.
4. It's rivaling the release of 'Barbie'
"Oppenheimer" isn't the only major movie coming to theaters July 21. It's rivaling the release of "Barbie," which has Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, John Cena, Helen Mirren, Michael Cera and Dua Lipa in it, among others.
AMC Theatres said July 10 that over 20,000 members of its loyalty program had already purchased tickets to view "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" on the same day, according to Forbes.
This has created a natural rivalry between the two films and some fantastic memes.
5. 'Oppenheimer' is based on a true story
Even when the plot seems outrageous, we all love a movie based on a true story. "Oppenheimer" is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist, and the creation of the atomic bomb.

Did Japan ban 'Oppenheimer'?
According to entertainment site Dexerto, Japan has not yet banned "Oppenheimer." But Variety reported June 29 that Universal, the movie's distributor, had yet to announce whether it would premiere in the country.
