What happens if I fail a class UCR? ›

Repeating Courses

Students may repeat up to 16 units of UC coursework in which they received a "D" or an "F" for the purposes of improving their UCR grade point average. Only the first 16 units of coursework that is later repeated will be excluded from the GPA.

Subject to Disqualification is the standing given when either GPA is at or below 1.5. A “subject to disqualification” standing does not indicate an automatic disqualification (being “kicked out”) from the University.

Good academic standing requires a minimum 2.00 grade point average (GPA) for work taken at the University of California.

You may register during initial and makeup enrollment. During initial enrollment, undergraduate students may register for a maximum of 17 units.

All courses shall be graded on the basis of A (distinction, indicating exceptional achievement), B (high pass, indicating more than minimal competence but less than exceptional achievement), C (pass, indicating competence), D (marginal pass), or F (fail).

Academic Dismissal

You are subject to dismissal if your GPA earned during your probationary periods does not meet the minimum requirement of 2.0 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.

You must earn a grade of C or better in all “a-g” courses and complete a minimum of 15 college-preparatory (“a–g”) courses. Eleven of those 15 courses must be completed prior to your senior year. Find out if your course is UC approved, and if your college course or SAT/AP/IB exam score meets an “a–g” requirement.

To be Academically Disqualified usually refers to when your final grades are posted to your record and you now have fallen under the required GPA for the corresponding academic levels.

Academic disqualification occurs when a student fails to meet standards for academic performance and progress and they are involuntarily separated from the University.

A minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA or B-equivalent (if GPA is not on a 4.0 scale).

What is the average GPA at UCR? ›

The average GPA at UC Riverside is 3.94. This makes UC Riverside Extremely Competitive for GPAs. (Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 3.94, UC Riverside requires you to be at the top of your class.

A CNAS Learning Community (LC) is a small group of CNAS first-years with similar majors and interest, who take their math and science courses together throughout their entire first-year at UC Riverside. Our program reserves these courses for our participants, setting them on the right track for a 4-year graduation.

When a course is repeated, only the 2nd grade will be calculated into the GPA, but the first grade will remain on the transcript. Students have a maximum of 16-units (essentially 4 classes) of repeat for grade replacement. Grades in additional repeats thereafter will be averaged into the GPA.

This is a per unit fee: $2.00 per unit for graduate students and $4.00 per unit for undergraduate students. This amount does not include the Student Technology Course Materials Fee.

Failing one or more classes could result in academic probation or suspension, depending on your school's policy or the requirements for your major. Most schools place students on academic probation if they fall below a minimum 2.0 GPA at the end of any semester.

You need to earn a grade of C or better in each course or a Pass (P) grade if pass is equivalent to a C (2.00). You need to be in good academic standing (GPA 2.00 or above) at the last college/university you attended prior to enrolling at UC.

A failing grade will likely hurt your GPA (unless you took the course pass/fail), which could jeopardize your financial aid. The failure will end up on your college transcripts and could hurt your chances of getting into graduate school or graduating when you originally planned to.

Pass/Fail Classes – The Basics

Typically, a student's GPA is not affected if she receives a Pass, but she will earn credit for the course. A Fail normally counts negatively toward the student's GPA, but some schools, such as the University of Wisconsin, Madison, do not count the F toward the GPA.
