Fortnite's latest battle pass, the Marvel crossover Absolute Doom, was announced at the recent D23 Expo's Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, teasing several heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. The story centers around the iconic Marvel villain, Doctor Doom, who has joined forces with an impressive roster of fellow Marvel villains who intend to use the power of the unleashed Pandora’s Box to take control of the island.
Doctor Doom is one of Marvel's best villains and is seeing a major resurgence in modern media, with him being the main antagonist in NetEase Games' Marvel Rivals and the next major threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Doctor Doom has also appeared in Fortnite previously as part of the Chapter 2: Season 4 Battle Pass, where he was unlocked by reaching Level 67.
As seen in the trailer - which is now available on the Fortnite YouTube channel - one of Fortnite's original 8 Recruits, Jonesy, dons a Captain America-themed outfit - appropriately dubbed Captain Jonesy - and assembles classic Marvel heroes to oppose this threat, such as War Machine or Shuri's Black Panther. As is often the case with these themed seasons, each hero comes to the island equipped with powers and abilities that mirror those from the source material.

Every Skin In Fortnite's Absolute Doom Battle Pass
8 Skins Are Available
The Fortnite site confirmed that the full stream from D23 is streaming on a loop within the game until the new season's launch and those who visit the island for 10 minutes will be granted the Peelverine Plush Back Bling plus XP when the new season begins - although the Peelverine Plush may be purchasable at a later date.
This stream and the trailer description confirmed that 8 skins can be unlocked and claimed throughout the Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 4 Battle Pass, and as is the case with the previous Battle Passes, these can be claimed by leveling up through challenges that offer XP or through buying levels to progress quicker. Each level grants a number of Battle Stars along the way, which can be used to unlock each Battle Pass reward. XP can be earned through Fortnite Battle Royale, creator-made islands, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival.
Previously, rewards from a Battle Pass could only be earned in that season and would not be available in later seasons. However, Epic Games has announced plans to make some items available on the Fortnite shop 18 months after that pass expires.
Absolute Doom sees players able to become a wealth of Marvel characters, such as Gwenpool, who will be making her Fortnite debut and will be available from the start of the Battle Pass, to the aforementioned War Machine and the Shuri version of Black Panther seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and various comic runs after her panther suit's debut in 2009, along with the big bad himself, Doctor Doom, and the master of illusion, Mysterio.
These are accompanied by new skins for Fortnite Recruits, with the Captain America-esque design for Jonesy, and Wolverine's classic blue and yellow costume for Peely under the name "Peelverine."
The new skins included in Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 4’s Battle Pass, along with when they can be unlocked and some of the main abilities characters are known for in the comics - or ones seen in the trailer - are as follows:
Character | Battle Pass Level | Abilities |
---|---|---|
Gwenpool | Level 1 |
|
War Machine | Level 15 |
|
Peelverine | Level 30 |
|
Emma Frost | Level 45 |
|
Captain Jonesy | Level 65 |
|
Mysterio | Level 80 |
|
Black Panther (Shuri) | Level 100 |
|
Doctor Doom | Battle Pass Quests in September |
|
More Marvel skins, including Fantastic Four, Fishpool, Meowscles, and Sabertooth, have been confirmed to drop throughout the season. Players will also interact with other Marvel characters in the main story, such as Cyclops and the X-Men, who have appeared in the trailer.
Every New Weapon In Fortnite's Absolute Doom Battle Pass
Both New And Returning Weapons Will Be Available
Absolute Doom will feature an array of new weapons and several returning ones from past Marvel crossovers, giving players who may have missed them before another chance to acquire them. As mentioned above, many of the new weapons are tied to characters making their Fortnite debut this season, such as Shuri and Peelverine's claws or Gwenpool's blades.
The new weapons being added for Chapter 5: Season 4 are as follows:
- New Dual SMGs
- New Sniper Rifle
- New Single-Hand Pistol
- Gwenpool’s Blades
- Shuri’s Vibranium Claws
- Peelverine’s Adamantium Claws
- War Machine’s Jetpack and Turrets
Fortnite leaker HYPEX took to X to tease that Shuri’s Vibranium claws will also be a Mythic weapon, but Epic has yet to verify this.
The returning items consist of both regular Fortnite Battle Royale weapons and character-specific items from past Marvel seasons, such as Doctor Doom's Mythical gauntlets, Captain America's shield, or Iron Man's Repulsor Gauntlets, the latter of which seems to be used by Gwenpool to fly in the trailer.
The returning weapons being added for Chapter 5: Season 4 are as follows:
- Doctor Doom’s Gauntlets
- Captain America’s Shield
- Iron Man’s Repulsor Gauntlets
- Stark Industries Energy Rifle
- Suppressed Assault Rifle
- Assault Rifle (Scar)
- Heavy Assault Rifle (AK)
- Choppa (vehicle)

How Much Is Fortnite's Absolute Doom Battle Pass?
And When Does The Season Begin?
As with many past Fortnite Battle Passes, the one for Chapter 5: Season 4 will cost 950 V-Bucks, which is worth about $9.99. To purchase this, players will need to head to the Battle Pass tab in Fortnite when the season begins and click on the "Get the Pass" button.
Players will be able to earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks by progressing through the Chapter 5: Season 4 pass, which can be used to purchase other future passes. Players can also stack their V-Bucks from external retailers to help purchase Battle Passes.
Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 4 is launching on August 16, 2024, after four planned hours of downtime on August 15, although it should be noted that this downtime has overrun in the past. While a start date has been confirmed, Epic Games has not announced when it will end, but considering Fortnite seasons typically last two to three months, it's expected that Absolute Doom will be the same length.
